Today my teaching position was eliminated as part of EDMCs Art - TopicsExpress

Today my teaching position was eliminated as part of EDMCs Art Institutes Faculty and Staff Reduction Program. The decision was handed down from corporate headquarters, and the matter was handled with compassion and professionalism by Dean Cox and by my department chair, Margaret Gonzalez. I was given a severance package based on my long years as an EDMC employee. To the many graduates, students, colleagues, and staff members who have been my friends over the years, though Ill miss being in the classroom, you are welcome to reach out if I can be a friend or a resource; Ill be disappointed if you dont. (And if we need to resolve any outstanding classroom issues, Ill make my records available to the design department). Ive enjoyed a steady paycheck, benefits, and a two-and-a-half day work week since 2000. I got a paid sabbatical and I got my masters degree for free. I got to be part of the finest, and most eccentric, talented, and inspiring design faculty ever assembled. Nothing lasts forever, but I enjoyed this good run for over 25% of my life (so far). So Ill be fine: I have work in my studio, and in the next 2–4 weeks, Ill be announcing a unique and remarkable eBook publishing system Ive been working on for a year; I will hardly be starting over from scratch. My lifes next adventure starts, appropriately enough, tomorrow, on April Fools Day. So I look back without regret. Im grateful for my experiences at MIU and to have crossed paths with so many fantastic people. Its time for exciting new beginnings. Thank you, Dave Bricker
