Today on Twitter The Zimbabwe elections remain the top story but with widely differing reports of rigging and results being posted to the various social networks. Reuters posted a report to say a source within ZANU-PF had claimed victory even though the official results are announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission which has until 5 August to declare the outcome. Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai is reported to have said the poll is "null and void". From the tone of the posts today it does not look like good news for a credible election. bit.ly/15y8lxs August is Women’s Month with next Friday being celebrated as Women’s Day in South Africa. There have been many posts wishing women well although South Africa’s sad record with the treatment of women will require a miracle to make August any less brutal and dangerous for females. Hopefully the good wishes can be turned into action so that at least for one month a year South Africa can get a sense of what life could be like for the countries majority gender. bit.ly/15y8e4K British Airways has introduced a regular London to Johannesburg flight using the massive Airbus A380, an aircraft so large it can’t even land at many of South Africa’s airports. To make the announcement a little more special they challenged Bryan Habana to a race against the behemoth, the video was posted yesterday and has already got over 250 000 views. Many locals were quick to point out that the SA flag used in the video was flown upside down. bit.ly/141AI7f
