Today our family says good bye to Nala, Troy’s retired K9. She is 14 years old. Troy has worked with her for the past 12 years, retiring her this past August. She is failing fast, and Troy can’t see her suffer through winter. Today at 4pm, she will be put to rest! It’s heart breaking for him, but he knows this is the humane thing to do for her. She was the perfect K9. She had a gentle and friendly disposition, and was driven to work each and every time Troy put his uniform on. She will be missed by all! Out of our three children, Hayden is taking it the hardest. Even though it’s the right thing to do, this teachable moment about life, death, compassion, sadness, and disappointment, is a hard one for this mama. When you child cries out, “I just don’t want today to happen”, you just want to wrap them in your arms and put it off for another day. But sadly, we can’t. Troy loves Nala too much to continue to let her suffer! Although no dog can replace, Nala, we must move forward to make new memories with Zuri, Troy’s new K9. RIP, K9 Nala!! You did good work, kid!!
