Today, our grandson, Samuel (age 18) left for Knoxville and early - TopicsExpress

Today, our grandson, Samuel (age 18) left for Knoxville and early tomorrow he will fly to San Antonio to begin his 6 years in the Air Force. He will spend his first 8 to 9 weeks in basic training and then will spend another 11 weeks in the next phase where the Air Force weeds out 90% of the group. If he makes it thru that phase, he will go on to train for 2 years before beginning his years in a para-rescue unit. This unit is very specialized in what it does as part of the U S military. We are proud of Samuel and what he feels God is leading him to do with this part of his life. At the same time, we are (as many parents and grandparents) concerned for his safety and immediate life experiences. Samuel is truly a family person and will miss his family in a greater way than many young men. But, he is leaving as he feels this is Gods plan for his life and he has trained and prepared for a couple years. Of course, those of us who remain here without him are already missing him and wonder how life will feel with Samuel gone for the next few years. As you think of Samuel, we would appreciate your prayers for him - especially these next few days as he experiences life without his family and settles into his new calling. And a prayer for those of us who miss him would be appreciated. Our granddaughter, Ruth, finished her army basic training, her job training and is now stationed at Ft Drum, NY. She has already experienced her initial time away from family and her early military life. We are very proud of her as she has worked hard and is adjusting to her life in a climate that is much colder than we have here in TN. She, too, is missed by family; we experienced our first Christmas with a grandchild not present with us. We were thankful for face time as we spent a couple hours on Christmas Day visiting with her and watching her open her gifts from afar. I hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas and that your New Year will be full of joy and peace. Thanks for your prayers.
