Today the Government of Canada has indicated they wish to reform - TopicsExpress

Today the Government of Canada has indicated they wish to reform the requirements to qualify for Canadian Citizenship. It is important to note that this DOES NOT affect anyone who is applying for Canadian Permanent Residence. How one gets Canadian Citizenship in general is that you apply for Canadian Permanent Residence and then after a certain amount of time in Canada, you are eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship. This still holds true but the amount of time needed to be spent in Canada as a Canadian PR has been greatly increased to strengthen and modernize our Citizenship Act. Under the new proposed rules a Canadian Permanent Resident would need to be physically present in Canada for a total of four out of their last six years. In addition, they would need to be physically present in Canada for 183 days per year for at least four of those six years. So for #TBT today we are posting the current Canadian Citizenship Requirements. It is not clear when the changes will be implemented but they are supposed to reduce incidents of fraud and speed up processing times considerably. Sincerely, The Canadim Team! canadim
