Today, the Holy Church celebrates the Commemoration of the Departure of the Holy Anna (Hannah), the mother of the Virgin Mary, the mother of God. The Holy Joakim and Anna were childless, because Anna was barren. Moreover, they were advanced in years. Nonetheless, in a miraculous way, God blessed them with the birth of a daughter, the Holy Virgin Mary, who would become the mother of God and a mother to all of us. According to tradition, when Anna discovered the news of her pregnancy, she ran to the Temple to tell Joakim. At the same time, he was running to her, because he heard the same good news from an angel of the Lord. Eventually, they met at the gates of the Holy City, Jerusalem, and embraced one another in joy. That embrace is the pure and perfect example of what it means to be married: to come together in joy to celebrate the blessings of God. O Holy Joakim and Anna, remember us before the Lord!
