Today, the President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E Dr JG Zuma, will deliver a keynote address at the Operation Phakisas working group feedback session or Open Day at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC in Durban. He will also give a clear outline of the four priority sectors that have been identified as potential growth areas. These are: 1) Marine Transport and Manufacturing activities; 2) Offshore gas and oil exploration; 3) Aquaculture; and 4) Marine protection services and ocean governance. We will also receive feedback from the four Ocean Labs and all the identified stakeholders will sign a pledge of commitments the Operation Phakisa initiative. Our aim as government is to unlock the economic potential of our countrys ocean because our ocean space remain unexplored. Our projections is that this presidential initiative can potentially create between eight hundred and one million direct jobs for our people.
