Today, the RSAF operates a range of helicopter platforms that are operationally ready to provide the SAF with different capabilities. Did you know that the RSAF began our helicopter operations in 1969 with a fleet of old Alouette IIIs inherited from the British? But this did not stop us from being mission-ready from day one. Over the years, our helicopter squadrons have been deployed on many operations ranging from Search and Rescue missions, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief missions and even on United Nation peacekeeping missions. A dinner was held in Sembawang Air Base on 29 August to commemorate these 45 years. Many pioneers were present at the event to reminisce their past experiences.
