Today the Supreme Court ruled that the denial of gay people the right to marry WAS IN VIOLATION of the United States Constitution, the supreme law of the land. Five Justices ruled that the Doma (Defence of Marriage Act) law passed by Congress preventing gay people the right to marry violated Constitutional Amendment 14: No State shall make..... any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States...... nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
