Today the UNSC passed its first specific resolution on small arms, including a provision highlighting the need to implement relevant obligations under resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. While this is a crucial first step, we were disappointed to learn from “What’s in Blue” that one of the more difficult discussions concerned the relevance of language reflecting the WPS agenda, and that due mainly to reservations expressed by China, some references to the link between small arms and gender-based violence were not retained in the final text. whatsinblue.org/2013/09/council-to-adopt-first-ever-thematic-resolution-on-small-arms.php
