Today walking on Polk st I ran into a former student who took a number of teacher trainings recently and asked me how he could really take his teaching to the next level. I had to tell him what I tell all new teachers. Stop being a seminar and teacher training junkie and start teaching more. There is no substitute for experience. Teach and do it a lot. I asked him how many classes he was actually teaching a week after now being a certified teacher at the 200 and 500 hour level. I teach privately he answered, sooo I said so you are not teaching at all are you? That code for I dont have any classes or privates Yes he admitted. I kind of felt bad, it was like watching a figure skater falling. While I am all for continuing education. The best teacher is experience. New teachers, get up, teach a lot. Do it for no money if you have too. But do it more then anyone. Save yourself from wasting money and being a teacher training junkie.
