Today was a day for lots of work and progress on a lot of things and Im so happy!! I finished the long awaited next chapter of my WoW fanfic, I did multiple repairs to my armor and my sister also repaired her armor because we plan on doing some winter scenery photoshoots with our costumes from BlizzCon! I also worked a lot on the wings for Hakkar! My sister and I, and a few friends, went to Home Hardware, where we were able to find the perfect supplies for the making of moveable wings after some discussion. Seriously, cosplay is srs bznz!!!! Oo. Although I gotta say, the employees probably thought we were seriously weird larping nerds or were just plain crazy from the looks we were getting. Once I was home, I was able to do a real life mock up of what I wanted the wings to look like and how long I wanted them, using the numbers and size conversion chart Id totally made up for myself the other day during my dreadful math session. I hate math so much, but hey, I must be semi good at it cause my numbers actually worked out and the wing turned out the PERFECT length!!!! I was so darn afraid it would end up past the 4foot restrictions that blizz puts on their contest rules, but its under the mark by 5 inches!! Woot!! Also, the wingspan opens up into a 6.5 foot wingspan!! Thats half a foot wider than I preferred, but oh well it still looks fantastic. Im so happy!!!! I cut the materials Im going to use for the wings and have them positioned, now I just need to borrow a drill, or borrow someone who has a drill, to cut the holes in the piping so I can insert the rivet/screw thingies and the washers! ....zomg as I type this I just realized that I forgot to get nuts for the ends....*facepalm* I guess its back to home hardware I go tomorrow!!!! Blast it. I also went to fabricland and bought the most beautiful and vibrant red fabric for Hakkars scales, which Im going to hand craft myself. I know that sounds like a pain, but in the long run it will look fantastic, which is what I want!! I cant wait!! Also, finished the lower jaw on Hakkars head, just need to attach it than I can start the paper mache process on the base! Materials so far Ive used on the wings: PVC plumbing piping, the medium diameter (3 sizes to choose from) at 10$ a roll. 2 rolls equaled 2 wings. Three 2.5 bolts with threading only on the bottom quarter at .19c per. A box of 3/16 diameter washers for 2$. Cardboard free from work for the base pattern. Heavy weight fishing line for the pulling system (havent gotten yet). 2 eyelets for the top of the wing to tie the fishing line to. A flat piece of acrylic with sockets to attach the wings to my back (not gotten yet).
