Today was a day of such mixed emotions, big highs and the worst of sad lows. GCR went to help 3 cases of ferals that were sick and in need of medical help ASAP. The first was at least an easy one, the kind family had over the last six weeks calmed him enough to have him inside and so he was easily placed in a carrier for the vet. He has a strangulated hernia and a neck wound. The second was an extremely wheezy cat that had avoided capture on two previous occasions and we desperately wanted this catch to be successful... Thankfully kippers, sausages and skill won the day and the cat is safely at the vet under treatment. The last case broke our heart and that of its elderly carer... When we went there the sick little creature sat on the living room chair, fire on to warm it as the man having lovingly allowed it in to recover in the heat. It was frail, puss coming from the nose, mouth and ears. Hair matted and breathing laboured and heavy. The poor man was so sad after his companion and friend that we almost couldnt do it but he also agreed if it suffered it should be helped. We cried, he cried and asked if we thought him weak for it. Barely could we get to the vet through the sadness more for the man than the cat. It was PTS after bloods confirmed what we already knew it had no hope of recovery. We stroked his head and let him know we cared for surely his master did. Out of respect for the cat and the man we didnt photograph it as he wished his little friend to be minimally stressed just at peace. RIP kitty, gone not forgotten xx
