Today was a day that I refer to as a Gump day. Gump days are all - TopicsExpress

Today was a day that I refer to as a Gump day. Gump days are all around good days; whether it be the actual run, the people I meet, or being in the right place at the right time. I picked back up on Railroad Avenue (the road where I ended yesterday outside Banning, CA) that parallels Interstate 10 to my right and railroad tracks to my left. The road shortly tapered from a drivable road to a gravel and dirt path by the tracks and I found myself alone and off the beaten path. I spent my morning racing the trains and discovering graffiti under the overpasses and bridges near the railroad. And then I met Kenny. He too was alone on this abandoned path with only his bike as his companion. I greeted him and we struck up a conversation about our travels and exchanged stories of our journeys, God, and the fact that He put us on the same desolated path. I asked Kenny if he would be interested in praying with me and without skipping a beat, he took off his hat and grasped my hands in prayer. It was the most humbling and extraordinary occurrence that I have had with another human being on this run. Before we parted ways, he reminded me to live by JOY: Jesus, others, yourself, and then we wished each other safe travels. The encounter left me with goose bumps and a simple reminder—Love God, love people. And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told to her from the Lord. (Luke 1:45). #loveshelbylove #runshelbyrun
