Today was a good day and ended on a wonderful note. I have the privilege of participating in an oral history of our organization, the Louisiana State Medical Society. LSU has an oral history museum and has provided us with a recorder and some basic training in conducting interviews. Different physicians relate how both the Society and the practice of medicine has changed over their individual careers. The LSU library stores them for us and they will be able to be accessed on line. Today I had the privilege of interviewing the editor of our medical journal. He and I work closely on t h e various manuscripts sending them out to peer reviewers, etc. Weve always had a good rapport so the interview was not hard to do. Just before closing I asked him if there was anything he regretted about his career. He thought for a few moments and said he couldnt think of a single thing. I looked him straight in the eye and just made the comment that it must be a blessing to look back on a lengthy medical career and realize that professionally he had no regrets. He teared up and said, Ive never thought about it that way until just now. It was an emotional moment for both of us and I was honored t o be there for that moment. It was gratifying and satisfying work.
