Today was a good day at rehabilitation. I was able to put my leg - TopicsExpress

Today was a good day at rehabilitation. I was able to put my leg on at the house. I walked out of the door, loaded the wheelchair into my truck, placed the crutches in the rear with it and then drove to rehab. Once there I told mom that I wanted to get the wheelchair out of the truck by myself and then wanted to walk into the rehab center. The center for FULL!!! With yesterday being a Federal Holiday all offices were closed so it seemed that EVERYONE was at the professional building. There were no parking spaces near the door so it was time to walk a greater distance than I expected. I asked Robert Brown, my therapist, to check the distance with the rolling wheel and he did. He came back inside the facility and told he that it was 450 feet from my truck to the front door of the center. Once inside, Robert knew I was already tired so he took it easy on me today. Once I rested a little while, I stood up with the crutches and began to walk around the rehab gym. I complete two (2) laps (250+ feet) inside the gym and then sat down for a little while. I then moved over to a set of stairs so that Robert could show me how to traverse steps or stairs. These steps have a 4 rise on them, there are four steps to the landing, I then turned around and went down the steps. I did three sets, rested a little and then did two more sets of the steps. By then I was whooped. I actually traveled in my wheelchair back to the truck as I was TIRED! Once back at the truck, I loaded the wheelchair back into the truck, loaded the crutches back into the truck and was able to get myself into the truck! All it was a good day, very tiring but I am proud of the accomplishment I was able to do! One step at a time!!!
