Today was a real wake up call for me. Myself, along with Dixie (a NKM volunteer and certified shelter assessor), went to visit with the staff and see the dogs at the Tullahoma Animal Shelter. I have no clue as to why more rescues do not go there and help them. Just because they try to be a no kill facility? (and are successful at doing so) Well, they have about 80 dogs to maintain that status of being a no kill facility...they were not designed to house nearly that many. There are dogs EVERYWHERE. I have to say that I was impressed though as it was clean and orderly....each dog had a name, food bowls were full and water bowls had water in them. They have utilized every inch of space there. A few dogs were in crates, however, they do get to go out and run while certain areas are being cleaned. They sure do have things organized at the TAS. While it may be crowded, at least the doggies are well fed, happy and alive. They have some that have been there for over 2 years, they suffer with black dog syndrome dogs galore, they have pitties all of which were sweet as could be, they had young dogs and older dogs...you name it, it was there. A black dog rescue really needs to come in and help them out in the worst way. We took some photos and will go back to take some more. The pics will be posted later. I applaud Teresa and the staff at TAS for the great job that they are doing there. Caring for that many dogs on a daily basis is a job within itself....added to their other roles that they have at public works makes for a more than hectic day. A huge thank you goes out to Teresa and the staff at the Tullahoma Animal Shelter for allowing us to come in today to look around, meet dogs, take pics and ask questions. We will be pulling at least 1 dog this week, providing the owner does not come in to claim it. I will close with challenging everyone to go to the TAS page and helping them share and network their adoptable dogs. They also have lots listed on Petfinder. Thanks!! Debbie President NKM
