Today was a recovery day for Åland United. Yesterday proved to be a tiring day of travel with a 2.5 hour ferry ride, 1 hour bus ride and a 3 hour flight, but they finally made it to Bosnia and Herzegovina! After breakfast this morning, the team had a light jog and stretch through the streets of Sarajevo. Taxicabs honked hello and police officers couldnt help but grin as 20 mostly blonde-haired soccer players invaded their city streets. In the afternoon, the team took a bus to some fields close to the hotel. After being greeted by two goats tied to the stadium wall, the team had a grand (the word of the day) training session. The weather was fair and spirits were high during the practice. After training, the team stopped at a local market to stock up on bananas, snacks and candy (Shhhhh dont tell the coaching staff!). Dinner was followed by a meeting with some team bonding activities. Team Clubs defeated Team Diamonds, a lot to a little points. The first challenge was to create the highest, free standing balloon tower. Team Clubs took home the victory after it looked like Team Diamonds had the win in the bag, as they used the ceiling to support their single column tower of balloons. Team Clubs had a sturdy tower, piling groups of 3 balloons on top of each other. The second challenge was even more challenging; a game of Whats My Occupation? Players stuck post-its with an occupation on their foreheads, and went around asking Yes or No questions to members of the opposite teams, trying to figure out what occupation they are. Team Clubs took the lead with Megan Lindsay guessing Doctor correct. The last challenge, each team had to wager points and nominate a team member before knowing what the challenge was. Team Clubs picked Megan Lindsay and Team Diamonds went with Kim Sundlöv. The game was to place an Oreo cookie on your forehead and try to get it in your mouth without using your hands. Megan Lindsay carried her team to victory once again as she popped up the Oreo and caught it in her mouth on only the 6th try. Tomorrow the team will check out the stadium after breakfast and have a pre-game training session to prepare for their first game against ŽFK Kochani from Macedonia on Saturday.
