Today was a very busy and important day. Only a few people know that Gerald is in need of a new Aortic Valve. There is a new procedure that is perfect for people like Gerald. He is not a candidate for open heart surgery so we are grateful that they can perform this procedure called Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement with the Edwards SAPIEN Transcatheter Heart Valve. Gerald has been going through extensive testing on all systems to determine if he is a candidate. Today he was scheduled for a transesophaegeal ultrasound to view the Aortic Valve through the esophagus. I wont go into the prep, transportation, admission process or co-payment with you; why bore you!!! And please dont forget pet-sitting fees! After waiting 2.5 hours in a holding bay, everyone noticed that Gerald had not had his INR tested. This simple blood test determines how thick/thin his blood is. After waiting another hour I decided to ask if the results were back and was Cardiology notified. I was told the results were entered into the computer and the doctor would be up to talk to him. I was then informed Gerald could get dressed because his blood was too thin and he would have to be rescheduled. WHY WASNT THIS BLOOD WORK TAKEN AS SOON AS HE WAS ADMITTED? He really didnt need a 2.5 hour nap!!!! I suspect if I hadnt asked, we would have sat there until the end of the surgical schedule. The procedure has been rescheduled for next week. I sure hope 2015 is better because 2014 has been absolutely terrible from beginning to end.....and thats no lie! My rant is over. Have a good night and hug someone you love.
