Today was definitely a Monday! Sam had her appointment at CHLA with her new GI doctor, but a bad accident meant we werent getting there anywhere near her appointment time. So after sitting in traffic and turning around, we got home and I found her in her carseat holding her PICC line! Ack! I couldnt tell if she had pulled it out at all, but there was a lot of blood and I panicked. Thankfully the nurse that is coming to our house came over and helped me stop the bleeding, changed her dressing, and confirmed the PICC line was still intact. Whew! I had visions of another stay in the hospital and trip into the OR. Im not sure I could handle that right now. But thankfully its not an issue today. Last week was really hard on Sam and she was struggling with staying stable. Its my fault really and I realized that yesterday. After the hospital and PICC placement we just needed to feel normal and free, get Sam out having fun, and try and replace the hospital memories with something more normal. Maybe even try to convince ourselves that life wasnt over with the PICC. That wasnt good for Sam and now we know and we will stay home this week and not push it. Let her recover. Im learning a lot in this process, and hopefully this week will help her find her baseline faster. In the meantime, we need to find fun things to do at home!
