Today we Pete Tidwell, Jim Hinton and I went on an 84 mile ride - TopicsExpress

Today we Pete Tidwell, Jim Hinton and I went on an 84 mile ride for lunch over to Gadsden Ala. After lunch we decided to take a different route back to Douglasville and Villa Rica, Ga. by way of Hwy 431South to Hwy 78 East. We saw a sign East of Heflin. Ala telling of road work but never saw anything going on. As we are riding on, i see a State Patrol vehicle on the East bound side with the blue lights but he is off the road. In front of the Patrol car is a motorcycle but is on the kick stand with visible fork damage, and i see another bike on the West bound side but off the road. Knowing it is clearly an accident, we stop to see what we could do. The owner of the bike in front of the Patrol car is sitting in the shade, on the phone . Good to see he is okay but shirt is torn and road rash on his shoulder blade/back, and bleeding on left elbow. We walked to his bike and it is probably totaled, beautiful metal flake orange HD Wide Glide with temp Ga. tag from Great South H D in Newnan. His buddy was coming back from across the road with a bottle of water for him. In talking with him, he had only had the bike THREE days and was his first bike. His buddy was leading their ride and came upon the road construction that maybe we would have seen but never did. The rider that went down hit his buddys saddle bag (Street Glide) and went down and did his damage. The Street Glide rider didnt go down. My sharing this with everyone is to remind US all to let the new riders LEAD the way, so the less experienced rider isnt placed in a position to maybe speed to be up with the other bikes. That is taught in the MSF school . He is going to be okay but hope it doesnt end his riding . Always stop when a rider is down. Praise be to God , it could have been much worse.
