Today we appraised a worn-out, broken-down copy of Mark Twains Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a variant of the 1885 First Edition. The client was from a family feuding over the books value, with one sibling insisting the book was worth $37,000, because of a perceived Twain signature inside, which turned out to be a printed facsimile, standard in this book. Total value of this copy: $150. Cost to fix the book $150. Appraisal $10. Moral of the story: Your own on-line research doesnt always work.
