Today we completed the 18th and final forum of the Joint Senate - TopicsExpress

Today we completed the 18th and final forum of the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction. What began at the Brentwood Campus of the Suffolk Community College ended in the Seneca Nation of Indians Territory in western New York. I would like to thank Seneca Nation President Barry Snyder and the entire Tribal Council for hosting today’s historic forum along with my State Senate colleagues serving on the Task Force. During that time we heard from 276 panelists, over 2,300 attendees, and listened to over 59.5 hours of testimony. The information and insights we have gained as a result of these forums, and the added input from countless New Yorkers affected by this epidemic who have contacted our offices directly, have helped us craft 25 separate pieces of legislation designed to combat this crisis from all sides. These bills will be considered by the senate in the coming weeks and I urge the New York State Assembly and Governor Cuomo to join us in supporting these life-saving initiatives.
