Today we give thanks, not for 1 star or 2 but 3! We are delighted to announce the arrival of the newest 3 members to Surin Project - Kham Saen, baby Anda and Sangat! Kham Saen has been on the Surin Project previously with her mahout Sangat but in 2013 they moved to Phuket. They recently moved back to the village and have now re-joined with the project. Baby Anda is only 4 months old and is quite the character, she is just figuring out how to use her trunk (which is great to watch!) and is finding her ROAR! Kham Saen in English means 100,000 pieces of gold and the baby was named Anda because she was born in Phuket near the Andaman Sea. Because Andz is so small, when out on walks she has to be tied to Kham Saen with a rope to ensure her safety. She may run off to other elephants and she may get squashed or hurt. Kham Saen might also get stressed or trumpet and roar if the baby runs too far away, which can create dangerous situations with other elephants in the group. On their first walk with the elephant group yesterday, Fah Sai, Nong Nun and Euang Luang stayed close investigating both Kham Saen and baby Anda. They both seem to be settling in well, although Anda does like to trumpet and scream, which sends everyone in a frenzy! We are keeping our distance and allowing them the time and space together that they need and deserve. Here are stars 10, 11 and 13 for our January of thanks - Kham Saen, Anda and Sangat. Please comment and share photos, if you too want to show your appreciation for these three beauties. #thesurinproject #elephants #mahouts #volunteerproject #volunteer #thanks #appreciation #gratitude #inspiration #animalwelfare #animals #Thailand #Januaryofthanks
