Today we had our last day in Izmir. We decided to just go for a ride and let the winds dictate our coarse. Well, we broke new ground. We wound up on a freeway, and bicycles can ride on their freeways here, and got to experience that event. It truly wasnt bad. What a rider has to do is just decide how to best deal with the situation, and deal with it. So, we did. . . . We had about a 5 mile ride before we got to a street off ramp. We handled 3-4 merging on ramps, and one merging freeway (where we had to move over two lanes really quickly to get to the far right guard rail. Of course, when we did get off the freeway, and find a way for the return trip, there was a very nice park/bike path on the other side of the freeway for us to ride - as pictures will show. The truly memorable experience was on that return ride on the bike path. The bike path ended, and there was NO WHERE to go but on to the freeway. There was even a police man there telling us that was the only path available. Next to the entrance was a stray dog, which truly wanted to bond with us. Susan and I started merging onto the freeway, and the dog followed (see pictures). The dog stayed to my right, along the whole 2k freeway route we took to the first exit, veering to the left of me, on the traffic side, only when cars approached. He even barked at the passing cars. The dog STAYED with us until we took the off ramp, the slowed down and we lost sight of him. That was an awesome experience! Anyway, here are pictures of our last day in Izmir. Tomorrow we get a ride to Ephesus. https://picasaweb.google/107852851602706180243/140420LastDayInIzmir?authkey=Gv1sRgCODfmO3R_c7bMw
