Today we had some amazing news. Mahawa, the 6 year old on my ward, had a blood test returned and her PCR is negative. She has beaten Ebola. We all put alot into Mahawas care. This care, her strong will and the grace of God, has pulled her through. We still have work to do to correct her nutritional deficit but as she is eating and drinking for herself, this wont be long. I want to give a special mention to my CHO Mohammed and my colleague Ben, they paid special attention to Mahawa, the frequent changes she required and made extra visits into the red zone with me to make sure her status was managed. This was such a long shot, with the level of child mortality in Ebola and as a patient reaching stage 3 with seizures, the result is truly amazing. So many of you sent messages and mentioned your prayers for Mahawa and I thank you. We are not sure where her Paddington Bear went, but she now has Peppa Pig. I think Paddington may have gone on another adventure, but we are not sure yet where Mahawa will go. Even the most difficult and challenging cases can be successful with the right investment of care. Today I am happy!
