Today we lost one of the first musicians to have a giant impact on - TopicsExpress

Today we lost one of the first musicians to have a giant impact on me and my playing. The second song I ever performed live was Sunshine of Your Love at my sleepaway camp talent show when I was 15, and this version of White Room was the first live track I ever tried to learn, as well as my first introduction to fretless being used in a classy way. I vividly remember watching this DVD on repeat, blown away by such an old guy playing so tastefully with such punchy, aggressive tone, completely intertwining with everything Eric Clapton was doing. This video was probably my first real understanding of improvising in a standard rock setting, and I played along to it almost every day for probably 6 months, learning every single fill note for note. Cream is my answer whenever someone randomly asks me what my favorite classic rock band is, and its not even close. Jack Bruce is one of the most underrated bassists ever, and though we were certainly never going to get another Cream reunion (Ginger Baker is still a dick), this is one musicians death that I am actually kind of saddened by. Watch this video for some seriously top notch badassery (Claptons solo made all babies within a 2 mile radius cry), and if youve never heard Disraeli Gears or Wheels of Fire, do yourself a favor and educate yourself. -Dan https://youtube/watch?v=dCc00pX_pFA
