Today we went to chepkoiyo village and I was impressed by the gallant soldiers of kericho county who welcomed us with great warmth. In chepkoiyo we were received by the area chief Mr. Joseph Sitienei and his assistant Mr. Joseph Chirchir. We first visited chepkoiyo dispensary which was well organized and with medicine and a few challenges. We later went to chepkoiyo secondary where we were received by arguably one of the best principals we have around Mr. Henry Rono who took us through their successes and a myriad of challenges. The school is well built with a hard working team of digital teachers and the support staff as well. However they are also facing challenges as a result of poor maize yield which is what they depend on for income to pay school fees. A story of a young boy by the name Emanuel Rop in form two really touched our hearts. The boy paid his form 1 fees using Cypress tree sedlings as he is from a humble background and his family had no money. the cypress now forms the hedge of the school. Across the fence is the mother primary school where we were taken round by the deputy Mr Joseph Mutai. they have quite some challenges; 1.Girl child skipping School due 2 lack of Sanitary towels 2.Pathetic Latrines priviously condemned by the public Health but still in use. Many more 2 come.
