Today, while a family friend was over, after he commented my maturity and interesting conversation as a nineteen year old woman, the topic of childbearing came up as we discussed my future. He and I never fail to have an interesting conversation haha. Of course I told him of my disinterest, and when he said that its what most women do, I mentioned my sterility by choice as the temporary method of ah IUD. This fellow, though sweet and intelligent, is an older Catholic gentleman, and was pretty firm in his beliefs that a girl grows into a woman with the ambition to rear children. After giving him the benefit of the doubt and briefly explaining a bit of my reasoning to him (my two main reasons mentioned being lack of interest and the lack of quality and morals in Todays American youth and society in general), he became a bit more open minded. He went from telling me that every woman changes her mind to, after thought, admitting everyone has their own paths in life, and he understands my reasoning, especially with society as it is today. Those tween girls stabbing another girl, all of these shootings, not being able to let your child ride their bike around town without worrying - he completely understood and in the end even agreed. It was a very progressive conversation and though I appreciate his opinion, he equally appreciates mine.
