Today with about 150 people in attendance, we planted a Southern Magnolia memory tree in honor of Calder; & Caleb unveiled a plaque at one of Calder’s favorite places, the Miami Beach Jewish Community Center Family soccer field. For all of us, this is sacred ground. With apologies to David Beckam – Dude, you might have met your match had you played our son. This tiny tree will grow up to 60 feet high in the years to come. -Like our athletic son soccer crazed son, this tree will have the best seat in the house for all JCC soccer games. -Like our big-hearted, protecting, courageous boy; this tree will provide shade, comfort, and shelter for all those who need refuge on a hot summer’s day or when the rains roll in. -Like Calder’s beautiful soul and beautiful face; lovely, fragrant flowers will blossom from this tree delighting all those in its presence . -Like Calder’s life-force and energy, this tree remains green year round as if in an eternal spring. -Like Calder who is saving lives, this tree will perpetuate life as it matures and it scatters its seeds. -Like Calder’s spirit, this tree will grow only bigger, more graceful, and more majestic over time. For all of us, it will be a timeless memory of Calder Jacob Sloan - a little boy who did indeed change the world. As Calder wouldve said from his favorite movie Toy Story: To Infinity and Beyond It was a wonderful morning. Cupcakes and juice were served (Calder and Caleb’s favorite). Jodi Bruce, Lehrman’s head of school presented us with the school yearbook which this year is dedicated to Calder and Caleb. MetroSigns and the Broward Country Junior Achievement produced a lovely canvas of Calder’s #MrAwesome photo. Thank you to Lorey Zlotnick and the NFL Network for the gift of the tree and the amazing staff, especially Patricia Leary, of the JCC for making this happen.
