Todays Dhamma: Teaching children to see the body as the body. Those of you who know me will attest that I like to point out that vanity is an illusion. Vanity and our ideas of what is attractive is socially conditioned and many times we fall trap into that conditioning not acknowledging that all things are born, age, and eventually die. The body is the body, and what we perceive as the beauty of the outside is only a fancy bag that covers the not-so-attractive organs of the inside. This is the ultimate truth about the body. How do you teach children this concept? Simple. You show them with an attitude of equanimity. When they see birth, aging, and dying as neither good nor bad, they accept them as simply is. The example below is one way of doing this. Take a toy figure and show them what is inside (OK, maybe the Lego people are stretching it, but I think the concept is brilliant). huffingtonpost/2014/01/30/jason-freeny_n_4690387.html
