Todays EMS Question: Across the nation, the nursing profession - TopicsExpress

Todays EMS Question: Across the nation, the nursing profession is moving away from associates degrees in nursing and towards a BSN. Many hospitals wont even look at the resume of a nurse who doesnt have a BSN, and those that do are requiring a BSN within a certain time of being hired. To even consider a management job, an MSN is the standard. Is it time as a profession to consider at a minimum an associates degree in EMS for paramedics? What about a bachelors degree? I agree with the concept - as a guy who has read thousands of PCRs in various leadership positions, I have been left shaking my head at the number of spelling and grammatical errors, and thats just the beginning. If we want to advance as a profession and not be referred to as the ambulance drivers - and earn the pay we all believe we deserve - is it not time to require a degree and switch all paramedic programs to university/college based programs? I say yes. Thoughts?
