Todays Got a Minute? moment: Ephesians 4:31 Get rid of all BITTERNESS, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. BITTERNESS: King Solomon said, “Better to live on a corner of the roof / than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.” (Proverbs 21:9) Actually, he repeats this sentiment a few times. And to be honest, many wives could also say it about a quarrelsome husband. The point is: An argumentative spirit, picking fights, never satisfied, these and more are indicators of bitterness. This attitude hangs on for a long time. It gripped and controlled my life for years. Some people never come free of it. Perhaps you have already pictured someone in your circle who lives with a cloud of bitterness. If that someone is you, deal with it quickly. It destroys relationships, careers, marriages, and homes. It corrodes your health. It undermines your reputation. It dishonors God. Paul says, “Get rid of it.” Or as stated above, he commands us “Let it be removed.” This resentful spirit characterizes our life before Christ. It typifies people who do not follow our Lord. It cannot—must not—remain in us. And ultimately, only the Holy Spirit of Christ working in us can remove bitterness from our spirits. “BITTERNESS”— What damage have you seen bitterness do in the lives of people you know?
