Todays Hurricane Preparedness Week topic is about winds and tornadoes associated with tropical cyclones. This is one of our biggest concerns being further inland from the coast. Hurricane Rita in 2005 produced 55 tornadoes in our county warning area alone in a 36 hour period. This ranks as the largest tornado outbreak in the Jackson county warning area in history. Tropical storm force winds can reach well inland, downing trees and causing damage.
