Todays Indie Throwback Artist: Hellogoodbye Today’s indie throwback artist is one that you should see live on stage. Their performances include water guns, confetti, and costumes. Today’s indie throwback band is Hellogoodbye. Hellogoodbye started out in 2002 as four high school friends from Huntington Beach heavily influenced by the then-emerging emo-pop-punk scene. Their name comes from a quote from “Saved by the Bell”. After a few lineup changes, they finally signed with Drive Thru Records, and made their debut EP a free online download in 2004. After minor success on MTV, Hellogoodbye released their 2006 album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! Their single “Here (in your arms)” went platinum. Many changes were in the band’s future. For one thing it would not be until 2010 when they would release their next album due to a lawsuit with their label which resulted in Hellogoodbye leaving them and creating their own label inorder to release their album “Would It Kill You” independently. They eventually signed to Old Friends Records and ‘Would It Kill you” was rereleased. Secondly besides their band member lineup, their style had changed from autotuned pop food to a more mature indie style reminiscent of bands like New Politic, Owl City, and The Mowgli’s. Since 2011 they’ve released two more albums..but today I’m playing music from the Would It Kill you album.
