Todays Meditation - Mon. March 17 Let your Spirit, O Lord, come into the midst of us to wash us with the pure water of repentance, and prepare us to be always a living sacrifice to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Devotion Psalm 65:7. You still the roaring of the seas, and the roaring of their waves, and the clamor of the people. Many years ago, during a trip to Spain, I swam in the Bay of Biscay. The sandy beach was warm. The water was a beautiful blue just like the sky. I relaxed as I splashed in the water. All was well, until I could no longer feel the sandy bottom below my feet. Suddenly, the slight rocking I felt became frightening, crashing waves. I tried to swim for shore, but the riptide just pulled me out farther. I was frightened, and I called out for help. I shouted to the Lord. My rescue came in the form of Spanish Baywatch. I was so relieved to be saved. In the water I felt so afraid and alone, but in fact I was not alone. I needed only to call out for help, and indeed help came. In our everyday lives, we can feel afraid and alone, tossed from one personal tragedy to another disaster, and wonder if anything or anyone can save us. God quiets the tumult in our lives. God saves us and rescues us. The waves may be frightening, but God does not leave us alone. God gives us peace that takes us through the terror to the safety of shore. Ps 56, 57, [58] * 64, 65; Genesis 41:46-57; 1 Corinthians 4:8-20(21); Mark 3:7-19a Bible Verse for today 1 John 4:18 (NIV). There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love....... Thoughts on This Verse... There are many kinds of fear. Some of these are legitimate. Others are imagined. Still others are irrational. Thankfully, as Christians, we dont have to be afraid of the one crucial event in our lives -- judgment. Gods love saves us, empowers us, blesses us, works in us, and touches others through us. Most of all, having experienced this love, we can cast fear out of our hearts because we know where we stand with God. He is our loving Father who longs to bring us home!
