Todays National Weather Forecast Not much change is expected in the weather for the second day of the work week. The saturated Southeast will have to keep the rain gear handy while storms interrupt outdoor plans in the Mountain West and Southwest. Following almost a week-long stretch of measureable rain, fresh downpours could aggravate existing flooding problems in the Southeast today. Places like Atlanta, Charleston, S.C., and Wilmington, N.C., could see another inch of rain leading to flooding in creeks, streams and poor drainage areas. The atmosphere will also be ripe for afternoon showers and thunderstorms from the Great Basin into the Southern Rockies and Southwest. A few storms could boom across the Northern Plains later in the day and closer to nightfall. Morning fog will give way to sunshine for parts of the West Coast while blue skies are on the weather menu in the Central and Southern Plains, Mississippi and Ohio valleys, Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The Central and Southwest U.S. will bake in the 90s and 100s. The remainder of the nation will flirt with the 80s while comfortable 70s are expected in the Northwest and Interior Northeast today. -Kevin 131 #mtwp
