Todays Tip: Its not uncommon for people to say I dont want to start colts because I dont wanna get bucked off. However, when the proper steps are taken, and the colt is truly accepting of the human and saddle before being expected to accept a rider, and a system of communication has been developed beforehand, it becomes much less likely. Starting colts doesn’t have to be wild, rank, and traumatic – it IS an ART that DOES require a high level of skill and experience to do properly, but when done well, it’s an amazing and rewarding process, one that can actually leave both the rider and young horse with positive feelings theyll look forward to experiencing the next day.
