Todays Topic: Violet. Music by Jeanne Tesori and libretto by Michael Crawley. This musical never made it to Broadway in its previous life but WAS the Best Musical of the Off-Broadway Season. There is a message here and youre bound to find it unless youre perfect--and no one is. Set in 60s Post-Civil Rights Explosion. It throws all those delicious nuances of chance, will we meet again, keep in touch into a country basket. All those tangents can mean a lot, or mean nothing. Sutton Foster, an unlikely heroine, is indeed talented singing anything and making it real. Colin Donnell as the Dick Dastardly Monty is fun, and nice to watch. But you all know(to me of course) the STAR is Joshua Henry. Good Ole Boy Boy Flick. Taking it all on the chin, still serving the country, spotting whats good, realizing the truth of class, struggle and all that goes with it. I loved this and Annie Golden killed it mincing words as the Old Lady/Hooker. What a role. The Gospelette-esque choir kept the circle unbroken. See Violet for yourself......Just open till August 10, 2014.
