Todays Youth Bucking Bulls, The plain hard truth is that - TopicsExpress

Todays Youth Bucking Bulls, The plain hard truth is that in my day we never saw the quality of bulls that kids now days see in the rank department. The bulls then and now cant be compared, hands down the bulls are ranker at the youth level now days. There were a bunch of good bulls back then but rank wouldnt be how Id describe many of them, maybe a few at any rodeo could have been described as rank. The bulls are different now, only a few at most youth rodeos are truly youth bulls. We grew up on rider friendly bulls and occasionally wed see some rank ones and some did get ridden but it was because we had confidence by learning to conquer nearly every time, not by getting our asses handed to us the majority of the time like so many now days do. There are some exceptional young guys out there in HS ranks but there are many more whove been victims of the bull power that myself and the others from my era and earlier never had to deal with. Im tired of whats getting handed to these kids about how it used to be and how it was for us and how they need to be bull riders quickly. We never got forced to be real bull riders until we grew up. Most of the ones who did were never heard of at the highest level of bull riding, much like the ones who are put in the position to fail today. There are kids at the youth level who are standouts but because of the bull power and the lack of education and self control by many parents, many of the ones who stand out now may never be heard of after youth bull riding. There are many who were standouts at youth level a few years ago that have missed reaching the potential they showed as youth. I believe it is because they were pushed too quickly to try to be real bull riders and never experienced total domination at the levels in between youth and professional levels. There will always be a select few young guys who buck the odds but I believe that even though they reach the upper levels quickly they still miss the fullness of what they could be by going through the process of climbing the success latter step by step. My advice is slow down a little bit and perfect each level of riding and competition in order to set yourself up for success at the next level. Doing this will keep your body sound and give you longevity for your riding career. If you jump the gun and try to compete too far above your head you may never make it to even the next level with any success. Cody Custer
