Todays about komono (小物について) is on Kumihimo or cords. 組みひも specifically the long flat ones that you use to hold the kimono in place at the waist before you put the obi date (o-bee dah-teh) on. Ive tried shoe laces and flat ribbons and various other alternatives in a pinch but I must say that proper kumihimo work a lot better and sit more comfortably. They also fold into lovely neat little stars to pack away which keeps them nice and flat, compact, untangled and rather cute. Here are some cute examples of commercially available ones folded and as you would buy them.
