Todays adventure was much more...ongoing. The Dracula (and Carmilla, and Byzantium) panel was a grand success; I was especially impressed by the presentation in the style of My Dinner With Andre (only in this case, Andre was probably a vampire). Very bold. Next was a less ambitious but still interesting conversation about time travel, during which I slipped out for some amazing donuts from Firecakes. I returned in time to completely rethink my views on Doctor Who (particularly the Second Doctors surprisingly feminist companions, including the one who once battled aliens by screaming at them), and enjoy a rollicking discussion. Moffat remains a ponce, however. On this there was consensus. Then, a talk that weaved together Atomic Noir, Three Cabelleros, and Disneys views on Operation Paperclip. I love it when a panel comes together. Onward, then, to the famed Billy Goat Tavern for a Cheezborger. Pop culture all around! Then, talk of online D&D, crossword puzzles, board games, and a history of train games. It was really much more exciting that it might sound (there was a Simon J. Bronner Award winner in attendance!). Then, of course, came the traditional Shakespeare panel. The standout of that was the casting of Sam and Dean Winchester as Princes Hamlet and Hal, and some insights into the literary background of Supernatural (it was deeper than I would have assumed). The academic portion of the evening concluded with an examination of the lives of immigrants, and the hybrid nature of a peculiar Mexican surf rock band. Then onward to the Slurping Turtle, the Tiki bar Three Dots and A Dash (for their signature, rather strong drink), and finally to prepare for tomorrow. Once more unto the breach, unless I wake up from this dream.
