Todays blog: Luke 19:37-38 . . . As Jesus approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole throng of his disciples began rejoicing. They praised God with a loud voice because of all the mighty things they had seen. They said, “Blessings on the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heavens.” Reflect: Palm Sunday preparations have begun. The story of Jesus entering into Jerusalem on a donkey is about to be told. Some pomp and circumstance is in order. We are going to sing, pray, and shout blessings for our King Jesus! But whats that you say? You arent yet in a festive mood. The car has a flat tire and your food budget is stretched thin. Maybe your neighbor has cancer or your divorce is about to be final. Thats the thing about Palm Sunday. Thats the thing about praising God. The time comes for it independent of our personal situations. Today I was at a hospital visiting a sick friend. And would you believe, right there in the lobby of a hospital, a hospital of all places, was a jazz band. The saxophonist was standing up to play his rift when I walked in. That is strange, I thought. There they are in the midst of people coming in for surgery, and going to visit their loved ones who are dying, and they are playing a snappy tune. It seemed rude at first. But my toe started tapping without my permission. I got a little closer to the band and the piano player smiled. Then, I noticed the sheet music he was using. The title of the song they were playing was Preacher. Maybe what they were doing wasnt insensitive. Maybe they were proclaiming the gospel. Ready or not, here the King comes. Pray: As I prepare my heart for you to enter in, let me be caught up in your story, Lord Jesus. Let me see all that is happening in my life in the light of your glory. Amen.
