Todays chemo infusion was described by our RN as our easy day in that it only was a two hour process (that stretched closer to three but whos counting?). In the morning, I get the heavy stuff that takes six hours. The same thing will occur on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Monday is another lighter day. Im reminded of an every semester experience from my days at Seminary. At the end of the first week, I would take all of the class syllabuses and, on four calendar sheets write in every due date for every paper, test, reading assignment, project, recital etc. I would then spread those sheets out in front of me and in despair say There is NO way I can get all of this done! Sometimes, I would walk around in a funk for the next week with it all hanging over my head. Then, the word from the Lord was always Dont look at the big picture, just take it one day at a time, one paper at a time, one test at a time. Sure nuff, the impossible somehow got done (and mostly on time!) Cancer therapy is the same way. I think the Lord will give me grace for the day so that Ill walk with Him in that day. Much as Id like to wish or pray it away, this is going to be a journey of one day at a time, one treatment at a time, one step at a time. Sandra was knitting a scarf as she sat beside my bed during the infusion. Our RN (from Kenya) admired it and Sandra reminded me of always doing the little things that are important. As we left, she went up to our RN and put it around her neck as a gift. Im glad she did it. If youd like to pray specifically for me, my cancer has really affected my hips. It is difficult to stand up and then take the first two steps. After that things settle out a little and I can walk. Pray that improves. So... somehow, I purpose to live it as the Lord intended, one day at a time, one treatment at a time, one step at a time. May His grace be sufficient at every turn in the road.
