Todays comment to the FWC by your NRC chairman: I come here today to speak on behalf of the millions of Florida taxpayers who have paid trillions of dollars into the Florida Forever program to preserve woodlands and waterways for the purpose of hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking and other forms of recreation. We deserve the right of safe enjoyment of these public lands. The proposed elimination of the prohibition on silencers in hunting means that the sound of the report from a hunting rifle will not extend as far as the range of a fired bullet. We depend on the sound of the report to alert us to the presence of hunters. Without that warning sound our lives are at risk from errant shots. We ask that this Commission do the reasonable thing and insure that the sound of the report from a hunting rifle or pistol retain its current amplitude and that the Commission keep in tact its current prohibition on silencers used for hunting.
