Todays crisis reminds us how vulnerable & dependant we are on - TopicsExpress

Todays crisis reminds us how vulnerable & dependant we are on scarce resources such as fresh water. We might have never seen this day coming but Im certain contingency plans for the purpose of notes must have been written somewhere in black & white, purely kept aside for administrative purposes without putting anything into reality. Such as a backup power system in case of a crisis etc. As a nation we now see the vulnerability of the so called urbanised capital city of Maldives, Male. The entire city could come to a halt with a glitch in the power system? Well Singapore, a nation dependant on water pipes of Malaysia all these years have now built reservoirs for self sustainability. Took time but they now have it. Lets take this crisis as a positive lesson & stay prepared for the worse possible scenarios both at personal & national level may we never see such a time. The crisis also reminds us how blessed we are as a nation & recall the times when we collected rain water, used salty water to wash ourselves & then a few cups of fresh H2O to rinse of the salt. Some people are fuming over not getting fresh water to fill their bathtubs & Grohe rain showers; others to clean their 10 story buildings & more disgracefully aggrieved over Bangladeshis collecting water as if they arent human like us. Wonder if we Maldivians are a super special breed having more rights over necessities than the expatriate workers, such as shame. I wish we were more compassionate & realised this could have happened anywhere in the world plus take this as a chance to appreciate how blessed we actually are. Apparently 780 million people lack access to an improved water source & statistics of deaths due to lack of water is heartbreaking. Please let us be a bit more considerate & tolerant & join together as a nation in this difficult moment. Stop blaming everyone else & come out of ur discriminatory shells to realise its not always about you as an individual. Nonetheless I applaud the excellent work of MNDF, police, MWSC, government & relevant authorities for the quick positive deployment. I hope institutions such as MTCC, STELCO & other such organisations will take lesson. Lastly I sicnerely hole for the sake of humanity Maldivians learn to be more compassionate learn to be more collective
