Todays drawing. This is my interpretation of Van Goghs 1888 painting titled “Woman Reading A Novel.” Vincents painting is the second image. Looking at the painting the woman is either in a library or a book store, or has a very extensive personal library. As I drew it I got the feeling she was in a library in 1857. The book she is reading is Madame Bovary. This book caused a sensation when serialized in 1856. She would not check out the book because her family would disapprove so she would stop at the library whenever she had a chance. The library had several copies, but she hid one behind some other books that no one every checked out. That way she could always have a copy.
