Todays morning coffee post touches on something near to my heart, and that is the fact that we live in a disposable world. If you dont know what I mean, walk around your own place and look at all the things that you own that will never have value and thus will end up in a landfill. Mind you. Thats not the only criteria, but its a start. Things made today in general just are not made to last. Its the difference between a 66 mustang and a 2000 Honda civic. When I sold guns and had a collector on front of me, or a first time buyer with means, I would always steered them away from the poly wonders like glock, and did my best to put them behind something like a 1911 made by Springfield or colt. One of the tools I used for my argument was a colt 1911 in my case that was a government model manufactured in 1913 that had paper work tracking it through both world wars, Korea, Vietnam, and then finally being sold to a private person. Even after multiple conflicts and 100+ years the gun was mostly original and still shot like a dream. I call that intrinsic value. Current poly guns are mostly of great value, good and reliable with many different features and share one thing in common with all other based guns and that is that the majority of the gun will be in a landfill along with other disposable things. Of course with care and upkeep just about any thing can have a long life of usefulness. And of course, things built to last can be neglected to a point that the item is just scrap metal. But the next time your looking at the tvs in the alliance section of the store and see that price tag, remember that your looking at an item that 10 years later will likely be worth 20 bucks. If that. And once it fails, no one will bother to fix it, it will just be tossed with the garbage from the kitchen. My self, I do my best to buy things of real value, things that my grand kids will enjoy, and there kids so on and so forth. Thats why I spend allot of time doing estate sales. In almost every case, its an elderly person that has passed and their home is filled with items built to last. Seems when young folks die these days, the contents of their home goes to good will or the trash. Just some thoughts.
