Todays new educational drive is entitled, Things You Dont Say To A Grieving Person. Very often when ppl grieve, we attempt to console them in some small manner. Thats what a friend or family member would do, right? However, the act of benevolence is often overshadowed by the things we say. At times we can make some very insensitive statements that can turn the person off and cause division rather than solidarity. Believe me, there are things that are a definite no-no when consoling someone. In this drive, we r going to examine a few of them. #1 Your Loved One Wouldnt Want You Grieving/Crying/Making All This Fuss. How on earth do u know this? Did the dead person say to u, Tell my loved ones they are not to react over my passing? Its not ok 2 say this 2 anyone who reacts emotionally to another persons passing. The reason for this is we are not aware of how the bereaved is feeling, their thoughts or even their history (or present) with the dead. The best thing to do is listen while they vent and encourage them to remember the love they shared with the dead. remind them to embrace life and to cherish what they hv presently. Or sometimes, the best thing to do is listen and not say anything at all.
