Todays pointless topic - why the Oscars are completely and utterly irrelevant. Saw a good article earlier pointing out that they only exist because the Studios wanted to distract the meat-puppets from unionizing back in the late 20s. Honestly I havent felt that they were relevant since...lets see...Im going with 1995 when FOREST GUMP won over Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Quiz Show. Two years later they really made me angry when John Sayles LONE STAR was only nominated for best screenplay, and while I do think the winner of that category (FARGO) was a great film, LONE STAR was better in every way, shape and form. So while I will undoubtedly watch them yet again I cant possibly imagine caring one iota. Unless, you know something fashion oriented comes to the forefront.
